Steve and Julie previously had a walk-in bath. It suited them well for a long time, until one morning everything changed. Steve woke up unable to speak. He was experiencing a stroke.

In the months that followed, Steve worked hard to recover, but the stroke left him with limited mobility, poor balance, and a higher risk of slipping in the bathroom. Even though he didn’t want to admit he needed help, simple tasks became progressively more difficult.

Julie became increasingly anxious. She often stayed home or waited outside the bathroom door while Steve showered, terrified he might fall when she wasn’t there. The bathroom, once ordinary, became a source of fear and tension for both of them.

The turning point came when Steve suffered a fall in the bathroom. Thankfully, he wasn’t badly injured, but it was a wake-up call. He decided it was time to make the bathroom safer, easier to use, and better suited to his needs.

Property Assessment & Design Considerations

During the home survey, we looked closely at:

• The layout of the existing walk-in bath

• The limited turning and standing space

• The risk areas where Steve’s balance was most affected

• Julie’s need for reassurance and peace of mind

• Their desire for a bathroom that remained stylish, modern, and easy to maintain

It was clear that the safest, most practical solution was replacing the old walk-in bath with a low-threshold walk-in shower, creating a safer and more open space for Steve to move confidently.

The installation took 4 days in total.

Our installers arrived each morning and worked diligently all day—without extended breaks—so Steve and Julie could have their new bathroom ready as quickly as possible.

The process included:

• Safe removal of the old walk-in bath
• Plumbing and flooring adjustments
• Installation of the new low-level shower tray
• Fitting grab rails and seat
• Installing the Performe wall panels
• Finishing touches and a final safety check

Everything was handled with care, respect, and attention to detail.
