Gill had always enjoyed the comfort of a relaxing bath, but following two major operations, a spinal procedure and a hip replacement, her mobility became significantly reduced.

After recovering from surgery, she was finally able to attempt using her bath again. However, what should have been a simple and enjoyable experience quickly became distressing. After getting into the bath, Gill found she no longer had the strength to push herself back out. Despite trying different ways to lift herself, she was unable to exit safely without help.

This moment had a lasting impact. From that point on, Gill made the decision to stop using her bath altogether.

Her independence was incredibly important to her, and relying on others for something as personal as bathing was not something she wanted long term. She needed a safer, more practical solution that would allow her to feel confident in her own home again.

During the initial home visit, it was clear that Gill needed a solution that removed the physical strain of climbing into a bath while still allowing her to enjoy bathing comfortably.

The focus was on creating a space that prioritised safety, ease of use, and independence, without compromising on practicality.

A walk-in bath with integrated shower functionality was identified as the ideal solution. The design needed to:

• Eliminate the need to step over a high bath edge
• Provide a secure and comfortable bathing position
• Offer flexibility for both bathing and showering
• Be easy to clean and maintain
• Support long-term usability as needs evolve
